How How Crime Works Is Made
The Vision
How Crime Works starts with perspective. I look for voices who understand crime from the inside — former members of criminal organizations, undercover operatives, investigators, or individuals who made serious mistakes and chose to learn from them. The goal isn’t sensationalism; it’s clarity. I help shape episodes around lived experience that informs the public about how certain crimes actually unfold, what warning signs look like, and what systems operate behind the scenes. The tone is gritty, direct, and honest.
The Production
Production leans into a more restrained, cinematic style. I coordinate shoots to ensure lighting, framing, and tone match the subject matter — often slightly moodier, more controlled setups than other formats. Whether in our New York studio or remote locations, I focus on capturing clean audio, strong visuals, and thoughtful responses. My role is making sure the environment supports vulnerability while maintaining technical precision.
The Edit
This is where the texture of the show is built. I handle color workflows, audio cleanup, and pacing — but what really defines this series is sourcing. I submit and track public-record footage requests when appropriate and work with licensed or publicly available law enforcement and government materials to build atmosphere. Surveillance clips, courtroom visuals, archival material — each element is chosen intentionally to reinforce realism without overpowering the guest’s story. The edit balances tension while staying grounded in facts.
The Final Product
From there, I package the episode for distribution across platforms, creating thumbnails that feel compelling without being exploitative, selecting stills that communicate urgency and credibility, and tailoring cutdowns for short-form delivery. Each platform version maintains the show’s identity while adapting pacing for where it will live. The goal is consistency, reach, and impact.
